What is the significance of the battle between the Arabs and the Franks at Poitiers?

The Battle of Poitiers took place in 732 on October 10 near the town of Tours, in the center of France. On that day, the Frankish warriors led by Karl Martell and the Arab troops of the Omeyad Caliphate clashed in battle. As a result of a fierce slaughter, the mainly foot soldiers of the Frankish kingdom, being in defensive formations, overcame the cavalry of the Arabs and Berbers. The significance of this victory for the Frankish state and for Western Europe as a whole is difficult to overestimate. After the victory, Martell continued his attack on the lands of the south of France captured by the Arabs. Within a decade, he drove them to the Iberian Peninsula, stopping the military expansion of Muslims in Europe for many centuries.
