Snow is very important for the life of plants and underground animals in winter. For example, if there is no snowfall, the winter wheat will simply die. The same applies to many other plant species. This is due to the fact that snow is a natural barrier. This is a “thermal dome”. Although it is not so warm under the snow, plants may well survive there. Frost affects plants without snow. The water in their cells freezes and the cells die. Also, it affects underground animals, as the upper layers of the soil simply freeze through.
