What is the significance of the dispute in the life of mosses?

Mosses are the most primitive of land plants, and spores are their reproductive organs. For mosses, spores play the same role as seeds do for flowering plants, i.e. they fall into the ground and a new plant grows out of them. However, spores differ from seeds in that they do not contain any nutrients inside, but are taken from the environment. If you look at the mosses that grow in the forest or in urban settings, you can see brown shoots on green plants, inside of which there are spores.
