What is the significance of the Hellenistic era?

This era was inscribed as one of the important periods in the history of the Ancient World. Its importance can hardly be overestimated, because it stood out very much from the rest. Hellenism gave the world the unification of two cultures, their cultural exchange among themselves. Thanks to the campaigns of Alexander the Great, the ancient civilization was able to see the East in all its glory, to borrow the best from them, while in the eastern lands a number of cities were created that contacted local peoples and enriched each other with various innovations.
