What is the significance of the ideas of the enlighteners for the 18th century and for our time?

The Age of Enlightenment gave many discoveries and achievements in such areas as: mathematics, chemistry, physics, etc. Religious beliefs and hoaxes were replaced by science with its accuracy and prudence. Many phenomena have been scientifically proven. The attitude of people to nature has changed, they realized that it is all-embracing and multifaceted. New research centers and laboratories were opened, as each scientist wanted to bring something of his own to science. Research completely switched to the side of rationalism and empiricism, which made it possible to provide evidence and scientific justification for existing phenomena.
