What is the structure of pure semiconductors?

A semiconductor is a crystalline material that conducts electricity worse than metals, but better than many insulators. Let’s say an N-type semiconductor has electrons that carry a negative charge in excess. In turn, a P-type semiconductor has, on the contrary, a lack of electrons, but instead have an abundance of vacancies for electrons carrying a positive charge. Thus, pure semiconductors conduct current in only one direction.
