What kind of paint is obtained in Mexico from aphids specially bred on cacti, which are called coughs?

From female cochineal worms, a red dye is obtained – carmine. For this, females are specially cultivated on prickly pear cacti. When a certain period is reached, the females are removed and dried, after which carminic acid is extracted from them, which is used to make a dye. Because of its laboriousness to manufacture, carmine is more expensive than other dyes. This dye extraction method is very old and is used all over the world.
