What lands did the Normans discover? what names did they give to these lands?

The Normans (they are Vikings, Varangians, Scandinavians) made their naval expeditions from the middle of the VIII to the beginning of the XI century. They opened sea routes from Norway to the Mediterranean (passed through the Strait of Gibraltar) and further to Sicily.

They discovered Iceland in the 9th century (the name was given “The Land of Ice”) and established constant trade contacts with it. From Iceland in the 10th century (980) they sailed to Greenland, founded several settlements there even before the appearance of the Indians on the island, but they disappeared by the beginning of the 15th century and the Portuguese rediscovered Greenland around 1500. Its name is translated “Green Land”.

Around 1000, the Normans discovered the island of Newfoundland off the coast of North America, but they failed to establish permanent contact with it. They called these lands “Vinland”, there is a version that translates “country of wine” or “country of grapes”, as well as “country of meadows”.
