Ozone is a substance whose molecule consists of three oxygen atoms. Formed by the action of ultraviolet radiation from the Sun on molecular oxygen. The ozone layer was formed in the Earth’s atmosphere about 500-600 million years ago. 90% of atmospheric ozone is located at an altitude of 20 to 40 km above the Earth’s surface. Thus, the ozone layer is part of the stratosphere.
