What Miltiades and Themistocles became famous for in the Greco-Persian War.

1) Miltiades was an ancient Athenian general. He became famous for winning an unconditional victory in the Battle of Marathon. His brilliant strategic thinking made it possible to defeat the Persian troops, on whose side, by the way, there was a serious numerical advantage.

2) Themistocles was also the commander-in-chief of the Greek troops during the Persian wars. He won many victories over the Persians, but the main one is the victory in the Battle of Salamis. When Athens was occupied, and the ancient Greeks were waiting for their fate on the island nearby – Salamis, Themistocles proposed to direct all efforts to create a military fleet, since it is the only salvation of the Hellenes. He was not supported. Therefore, he turned to Xerxes himself, telling him that the Greeks were fleeing and it was worth fighting right now. Themistocles knew that in the narrow space of the straits, the chances of the Greeks and Persians would equalize. As a result, the Greeks won a heroic victory.
