What motion is called thermal? Why? How is it different from mechanical motion?

Thermal motion is the chaotic motion of particles that make up matter. Due to the fact that this movement is directly dependent on temperature, it is called thermal. With increasing temperature, particles (atoms, molecules) move faster, with decreasing – slower. It is this property that distinguishes it from mechanical movement.
