What motives prompted the USSR leadership to conclude a non-aggression pact with Germany?

In the second half of the 20th century, the USSR took the path of choosing further development. The aggression of Germany, obviously, could have affected the USSR as well. For this reason, the leadership has concluded a treaty of friendship between states. In a similar way, it was possible to delay time until the outbreak of hostilities in the east. Both countries were at war. The USSR was on the brink of war with Japan. Battles on two fronts were not promising for either one or the other state. The Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact became a temporary reprieve from the war between Germany and the USSR.
