What natural biocenoses did the horse live in?

Before horses were domesticated by humans, they lived in mainly plains and steppes, where there was a lot of grass and water. Representatives of the equine genus used to have many more species, but only a small part have survived to this day. So, for example, the ancestors of the equidae originally lived in the North American steppes and from there moved to Eurasia. But in North America they have completely disappeared. In Asia, due to the hunting of people and periods of glaciation, many species of wild horses have also become extinct, or turned into a domestic horse.
