What natural disasters are common in Africa?

The most frequent natural disasters in Africa are droughts, in the savanna regions of the continent. They can last for many months, leading to drying up of rivers, loss of crops, and famine among the population. Another problem for agriculture is the invasion of locust hordes. in some years, locusts completely destroy crops.

In the Sahara Desert, dust storms of gigantic proportions are formed. Locals often call them sirocco. Wind-blown sand greatly impairs visibility, clogs drinking water sources, and sweeps roads. Sometimes the wind brings sand from the Sahara to Europe, and even to the Caucasus.

In equatorial Africa, in contrast to the savannas, on the contrary, there is too much rainfall, due to which frequent river floods occur, leading to dangerous floods.
