What ocean is the Maldives in?

The Maldives are located in the equatorial zone of the Indian Ocean, south of India. The state of the same name is located on the islands. This archipelago is of coral origin, which can explain the fact that the relief of all the islands is flat, and the height above sea level is about two meters (2.4 m is the highest point). The number of islands exceeds 1,100, but only some of them are inhabited, since on small islands at high tide, sea water can cover the entire area.
