What qualities of Brezhnev’s politician helped him to occupy the high post of the USSR?

Brezhnev was very much helped by the fact that before him Khrushchev was the top leader, who often made very or unpopular or absurd decisions. Brezhnev was a calm and cold person. He could make decisions carefully, without creating conflict situations. To this we can add the fact that Brezhnev was not by hearsay familiar with the dark sides of the Soviet governing bodies, knew how to navigate and act in them correctly, not to show them off.
