What reactions are called neutralization reactions?

A neutralization reaction occurs when an acid and a base react to form water and salt, and involves a combination of H + ions and OH- ions to generate water. The neutralization of a strong acid and a strong base has a pH of 7. Neutralization of a strong acid and a weak base will have a pH of less than 7, and conversely, the resulting pH, when a strong base neutralizes a weak acid, will be greater than 7. When the solution is neutralized, this means that salts are formed from equal masses of acid and base.
