Many indigenous tribes of America considered the Europeans who arrived from overseas to be gods, opening the gates of their cities to them. An important role in the conquest of the colonies was played by the diseases brought to these lands by Europeans. Aboriginal people were not immune to many of them. As a result of epidemics, much more people suffered than from military campaigns.
