What reasons hindered the development of peasant farms?

The serf type of economy meant that the peasants were obliged to work for the landlord and use their equipment. The landlord received the lion’s share of the profits. General and economic illiteracy also had a negative effect. Also, an important role was played by the fact that the peasants did not enjoy the full rights of a citizen and were limited by class affiliation. The peasants owned little land, and the families had many children. The prices for bread in the world were growing and the price for renting land from the landowner was growing.
