What religions were introduced to the territory of Kazakhstan as a result of the development of the Great Silk Road?

The traditional religion of the Kazakh people, like other Turkic peoples, was Tengrianism. Tengri is the God of Heaven, beneficent and just. Umai is the second deity in meaning – the female deity of fertility.

With the development of the Great Silk Road, religions such as Islam and Buddhism were introduced to the territory of modern Kazakhstan.

Islam first penetrated the southern regions, and then spread throughout Kazakhstan for many centuries.

Islam was accepted by the khans Berke and Uzbek. Khan Uzbek at the beginning of the 14th century declared Islam as the state religion. It is known that a common religion will unite the people and bring them closer to those peoples who already profess it. Before the adoption of Islam, some tribes were Christian and Buddhist.

Yasawi Khoja Akhmet contributed to the spread of Islam in Kazakhstan.
