What religions were used in the Khazar Kaganate?

Initially, the Khazars, as natives of the Western Turkic Kaganate, professed traditional Turkic pagan beliefs. They worshiped the sky, and Tengri was the main deity. Were tolerant of other religions.

After an unsuccessful war with the Arab Caliphate, the top of Khazaria was forced to convert to Islam. This was a prerequisite for peace with the Arabs. But most of them continued to practice traditional Turkic pagan cults.

In the 8th century, Jews fled to Khazaria, motivated by persecution, both in Byzantium and in the East.

In 740, Bulan converted to Judaism, and the reforms of Obadia at the beginning of the 9th century made Judaism the state religion of the Khazar Kaganate.
