What role did chivalry play in medieval society?

In medieval society, power decided most of the issues. The knights had “such power”, in fact, they had power over medieval society. The knights were the owners of the land. Knightly traditions have made a special contribution to the culture of society. Chivalry gave rise to a certain type of culture. New ethical norms and traditions have emerged. Honor, loyalty, duty, military courage, noble attitude towards the female sex became appreciated. Knightly ideals have permeated diplomatic relations and military conflicts.
