What role did the battles of Crécy and Poitiers play in the Hundred Years War?

When the war between England and France just broke out, there were a couple of battles in 1346 – the Battle of Crécy and in 1356 the Battle of Poitiers. In both battles, France suffered crushing defeats, losing many troops and territories. These two battles showed that, although France had a sufficient number of troops at its disposal, its commanders were not ready for war and ineptly disposed of their subordinates (Battle of Poitiers, the French troops exceeded Edward’s troops several times in number, but still suffered defeat , having suffered heavy losses). Perhaps, if not for these two major defeats of France, the war would have ended in those years.
