What role did the Philistines play in the lives of the ancient Jews?

In the 13th century BC, Jews were able to establish themselves in the land of Canaan. True, here they were not welcomed by the local tribes, including the Philistines. Thus, a struggle broke out between the Jews and the Philistines. Ultimately, the Jews were able to defeat and establish their kingdom of Israel here. Their confrontation is also described in the Bible, when a young youth David was able to defeat a huge Philistine warrior – Goliath, with just one shot from a sling.
