What role do chromosomes play in a cell?

All information about the structure of the protein that needs to be synthesized at one time or another (i.e. information about how the body will develop) is recorded using DNA nucleotides by encoding the data with one of the nitrogenous bases – adenine (A), thymine ( T), guanine (G) or cytosine (C). Nucleotides interact with each other according to the principle of complementarity – adenine is complementary to thymine, guanine to cytosine. Thanks to this, the double strand of DNA is twisted into a spiral. This helix is ​​wound around the histone protein. Such a complex of nucleic acid and protein is called a chromosome – it contains a huge amount of information important for the life and development of an organism. Chromosomes are present in every cell and, during division, are evenly distributed between the two daughter cells. The data recorded on the chromosomes regulate the vital activity of cells.
