What role do metals play in redox processes?

Redox chemical reactions are quite widespread, their main feature is that in the course of redox chemical reactions, the oxidation states of the atoms of chemical elements participating in the reaction change. In each such reaction, an oxidizing agent and a reducing agent are present, that is, atoms that donate and attach electrons, respectively. Metals, as a rule, in such chemical processes play the role of a reducing agent, forming metal cations.
