Mossy ones maintain water balance, accumulating and retaining an enormous amount of moisture, as well as radioactive components. In the swamps, you can find sphagnum moss – a natural antiseptic. In the course of life, it dies off, releasing acid, which slows down the decay process. Over time, organic residues provoke the formation of peat. Bryophytes serve as food and shelter for some representatives of the fauna.
