What sparked antitrust policy? What are its goals?

Monopolization of the production of goods or services in the hands of individual large entrepreneurs has a number of negative consequences for the market economy. Monopolists, in order to obtain maximum benefits, dictate the price of the goods they produce. On the one hand, this leads to the bankruptcy of small entrepreneurs who cannot so reduce the cost of production. On the other hand, monopolists are able to fill the market with low quality products. Monopoly kills competition, which negatively affects the development of monopoly industries. All these factors induce the state to form and implement antimonopoly policy.
