What stars are called navigation stars and what do they serve?

Navigation stars are used to determine the cardinal points. In the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, the stars in the sky look different. In the Northern Hemisphere, the North Star is used to determine the cardinal points, if you face the star, then the south will be behind, the west will be on the left, and the east will be on the right. In the right hemisphere, the constellation Southern Cross is used to determine the cardinal points. Previously, navigation stars were most often used by navigators of the era of the great geographical discoveries, and in modern conditions these stars and constellations are used for orientation in space of spaceships.
