What subjects were studied in Roman schools?

In elementary school, children were taught to read, write and count. At a higher level of education, grammar was studied, dialectics – the art of thinking and reasoning correctly, rhetoric – oratory, then mathematical sciences, which included arithmetic, geometry, astronomy and music.
