What substances are called hydrophilic, hydrophobic? Give examples of what are in the human body.

Hydrophilic substances are those that have a chemical attraction to water. Although water is a somewhat covalent molecule, the two electrons of hydrogen atoms spend more time with the oxygen atom, which is completely electronegative. Positive ions tend to be attracted to the oxygen atom in the water. Thus, most salts are hydrophilic.

Hydrophobic molecules float on the surface and repel water. Hydrophobic liquids such as oil will separate from the water. Hydrophobic molecules are usually non-polar, that is, their atoms cause the molecule to not create a static electric field.
