What substances determine the buffer properties of the cell?

Buffering is the ability of a cell to maintain a constantly slightly alkaline pH of the medium. Depending on the change in the concentration of salts inside and outside the cell, the reaction of the cell contents can change accordingly. So that the reaction of the environment does not change, there should be no unbound hydrogen ions and hydroxide ions inside the cell. If they are formed, the environment immediately changes to an alkaline or acidic side.

1. Inside the cell, the buffering capacity is provided by Н2РО4 and НР04.

2. Outside the cell, the buffering capacity is provided by Н2СО3 and НСО3.
