The following organ systems are involved in the metabolism of animals:
Digestive – the formation of nutrients and their absorption into the blood;
The circulatory system – transports nutrients to the tissues of organs, to remove decay products from them (carbon dioxide, urea, excess water)
Excretory system – removes excess water, mineral salts and decay products (urea) from the body
Respiratory system – produces an exchange of gases between the body and the environment
Skin removes excess water
