What types of activities were the merchants engaged in?

Merchants in Russia were engaged in the sale and all kinds of resale, all kinds of and necessary, in the everyday life of a common man in the street, goods. Initially, for the most part, these were people wandering through the numerous cities and tiny villages of our vast country and selling a number of goods. Subsequently, they began to settle and take root, in permanent places, with a lively and incessant flow of trade. They, as they say, were the engines of our old Russian economy.
