Isomerism is a phenomenon in which there can be several substances with the same molecular formula, but different in structure and properties.
Alkenes are characterized by different types of isomerism.
1) Carbon skeleton: pentene-1 and 2-methylbutene.
2) Double bond positions: octene-1 and octene-2, octene-3.
3) Interclass isomerism: propene and cyclopropane, butene-1 and cyclobutane.
