What types of tissues prevail in the structure of the respiratory system and why?

In the structure of the respiratory system, two types of tissues predominate. The first is connective tissue, namely cartilaginous tissue. It consists of the larynx, trachea and bronchi. Being solid, it preserves the lumen of these organs and allows air to pass unhindered. The second type of tissue is epithelial. The pulmonary vesicles consist of a single layer of epithelium for gas exchange, and the airways are lined with ciliary and glandular epithelium, which cleanse, disinfect and humidify the air.
