What types of transport were used in the 9-12 centuries to transport goods?

In the Middle Ages, horse-drawn transport was used for transportation. The draft animals were most often horses and camels. They used river transport (when there was no ice) and sea ships. Such trade routes existed on the Danube, on the Volga, on the Don and the Dnieper (“from the Varangians to the Greeks”), as well as on the Loire River in France, along the Po river in Italy and in the Mediterranean Sea.
