What types of transport were used in the 9-12 centuries to transport goods?

Horse-drawn carts were most often used to transport cargo on land. Horses were the main driving force of that time, from where the concept for measuring power (horsepower) later came. The main means of transport for the carriage of goods by sea were ships, shuttles and ships. Most often these were either sailing ships, or oared, or combined (a combination of oars and sails), depending on the distance and the specifics of a particular cargo.
