What was Alexander the Great striving for?

Alexander the Great strove to glorify his name over the centuries and reach the level of ancient Greek heroes (Hercules, Perseus, etc.). So in the 4th century BC, Alexander led the Greco-Macedonian army and went on a campaign against the Persian Empire. For several years of war, the once mighty state was brought to its knees, the Persian king himself fled, and then was killed by his own satraps.
