What was Fernand Magellan’s travel plan?

Magellan’s travel plan was to reach the Moluccas from the west, thereby proving that the Earth is in the shape of a ball. Several discoveries were made during the trip: two galaxies were discovered, visible only from the Southern Hemisphere; it became necessary to change the date line – after returning home, Magellan discovered a discrepancy between the logbook and the calendar; they won one day during the trip.
