What was the attitude of society and various political parties to the outbreak of the world war?

The society had a very patriotic attitude, for the most part it supported the governments of their countries.
If we talk about Russian political parties, then there was a serious division. The Octobrists advocated a complete cessation of criticism of the monarchy during the war and the provision of all kinds of support to it. Another political party, the Mensheviks, talked about ending the war in principle and about the immediate conclusion of a democratic peace. Another political force in Russia, the Social Democrats, advocated stopping revolutionary uprisings during the war.
The position of the Bolsheviks was that Russia wanted defeat. They believed that a defeat in the war would also be a defeat for the monarchy in Russia.
