What was the attitude of the Arabs towards the conquered peoples? How has it changed? Why?

The occupied lands by the Arabs passed under the authority of the Muslim community. The entire population that lived here was forced to pay tax, as well as convert to Islam. In the beginning, Muslims did not force the locals to convert to Islam. So, for example, Jews or Christians were allowed to live according to the laws of their faith – faith in one God. Nevertheless, they still had to pay a poll tax for this. At the same time, Muslims treated pagans very strictly. On pain of death, they were forced to convert to Islam.
