The decomposition of the serf system of the economy in the Russian Empire began to be observed in the 19th century, this became especially noticeable after the defeat in the war in the Crimea in 1853-1856. The population of the empire increased and became denser in the European part of the state, there was little land, due to its extensive use, the efficiency fell. People were forced to move to Siberia and to the territory of Central Asia. With the abolition of serfdom and Stolypin’s land reform, when a peasant could get a bank loan to buy out land, the serfdom system finally ceased to exist.
