What was the difference between an urban artisan and a peasant?

Peasants and artisans differed from each other primarily in their occupation: peasants were engaged in agriculture, artisans – in trade. Craftsmen lived in cities, peasants in villages. The peasants were isolated, they were engaged in corvee work, as well as work on their land. Were dependent on the feudal lords. Craftsmen also paid taxes, but had the opportunity to unite in workshops, where they were protected from competition and oppression of the feudal lords.
