What was the difference between education in Athens and in Sparta?

A feature of the Spartan education system was the military-physical direction. The emphasis was on the upbringing of a strong, combat-ready man – the defender of the landed aristocracy. Physical education and military exercises come first. The educational system also included music, singing and religious dancing. The art of reading and writing was not taught, but the emphasis was on the ability to briefly and clearly – concisely, to explain their thoughts.
In Athens, the educational system had a distinctly individual character. The Athenians strove for a combination of mental, moral, aesthetic and physical development.
In education, a range of academic disciplines is gradually emerging, which become the basis of its content: grammar, dialectics, rhetoric, as well as arithmetic, geometry, astronomy, and music.
