What was the difference between the attitude of dependent peasants to the work of the slaves?

Unlike the slave, who himself was the absolute property of his master, the serf peasant could be the owner of movable and immovable property. Accordingly, the peasant was motivated to work better, since not only the wealth of the feudal lord, but also his well-being depended on the result of his labor. The food slave had neither the motivation nor the desire to improve anything. The peasant took care of the land on which he worked, about the tools that he used, part of his labor he gave to the feudal lord, part remained in his possession. The peasant, in addition to agriculture, was free to engage in trade or handicraft production.
