What was the form of writing in Ancient Egypt?

Ancient Egyptian writing originated at the turn of 4-3 thousand BC. The symbols used by the Egyptians were called hieroglyphs. The writing itself was called cuneiform. In total, there were about 24 consonant symbols in the Egyptian alphabet and several additional ones, which were discarded over time. But there were no vowels in this writing. The very same Egyptian writing was quite difficult to learn.
