What was the power of the feudal lord over the dependent peasants?

In medieval society, power belonged to the owners of the land – the feudal lords and the church. Most of the population was dependent peasants who had certain obligations to their “lords” feudal lords for the use of their lands. The peasants bore obligations before the feudal lords – rent and corvee. For failure to fulfill their duties, the feudal lords had the right to judge the peasants. Personally dependent peasants could not leave the feudal lord without his permission, for example, they would move to another area – be it a village or a monastery.
