What was the purpose of the conspiracy in Florence in 1478?

The conspirators pursued the goal of overthrowing the Medici dynasty that ruled in Florence at that time. It was planned to kill Lorenzo the Magnificent – the head of the Medici dynasty and his brother Giuliano. The main conspirators were Francesco Pazzi and Jacopo Pazzi, who wanted to take the ruling positions in Florence. Lorenzo the Magnificent was viewed by the conspiracy as a tyrant, and they appealed for the restoration of the old order of the Florentine Republic. Even Pope Sixtus IV secretly supported the conspiracy.
