Their chief was Ashur, who was considered the god of war and the patron saint of Assyria. Dagon – was considered the god of the earth, was the patron saint of agriculture. Zahak – a god in a serpentine guise, was very cunning and evil. Nisroch is a god with an eagle’s head. The cult of the goddess Ishtar was also widespread.
